Happy Friday everyone!
Butterflies, Wings and Wishes had to be rescheduled from this Monday to the following Monday, June 4. Thanks to those of you who sent your forms back already and if you haven't, please do so for next week. This morning, the class finished their first and last pages of their information booklets for the Water Expo. It was awesome seeing the students learn to trouble shoot accidental deletions using [command z] and copying and pasting images from a shared document using [command c] and [command v]. Way to go! Enjoy your weekend.

I know it is very short notice, but I am asking that the forms be brought back tomorrow, if possible. Unfortunately, the seven dollar fee can't be paid online because it is less then ten dollars, so please include cash or cheque.
This morning, the class worked on their Watershed Expo projects. Most of you are ready to go for tomorrow on the computers - way to go, you worked really hard :) In the afternoon, the class watched an OLD video from 1964 ;) about life in the prairies. Did you know that some people built their homes out of mud?! Enjoy the afternoon - see you tomorrow. Holy macaroni! It has been such a long time since we have blogged.
The class is incredibly busy - they started a project all about watersheds and the community today in preparation for the water expo that is taking place on June 12. This is an in school event where other classes are going to come through our classroom and ask the experts questions about how we can care for our water and keep the watershed everything that is connected to it, healthy. They are also working hard on their paper bag books for Charlotte's Web. Stay tuned. Today, we played soccer outside in the field. -Noah In music, we danced to three Just Dances. -Kahlan Today we read Charlotte's Web, chapter 11, and made some notes. Then we wrote a summary about the chapter. -Carsen Tomorrow morning, we are going for a walk around the storm pond. Please make sure to bring your hat, sunscreen, water, and great explorer brains!
Tomorrow afternoon we have the City of Calgary water expert coming in to share some information about Calgary's water and how our community can care for it. Enjoy the sunshine! We are learning about water and how we shape it, and how it shapes us. If the weather holds up for Wednesday, our class is going to walk over to the storm pond to explore where the water in New Brighton goes when it rains and when we water our lawns. We will learn about what else can end up in the storm pond and how this might impact the plants and animals that are connected to this water.
Today we did science and in science we watched videos about watersheds. We learned about the water in the Bow River and how it moves all the way to Hudson Bay. - Hudsynn
This morning, we had music and we practiced on the xylophones. - Ashley In Phys Ed we went outside. We played a game and it was kind of the same as Four Squares. It was a little version of that game. - Maleena Happy Friday!
This week flew by and our class stayed busy with practicing addition and subtraction, as well as finishing up the boat unit! Next week, students will reflect in a video journal about what worked, what didn't work so well, and how they improved their design. Stay tuned. Also, Google is celebrating George Melies (Hugo) this week. Check out the link below that they put on their main search page. g.co/doodle/aaxt3f Enjoy your weekend, and "May the fourth be with you." Tomorrow is Hats on for Mental Health Day. You are invited to wear a hat to school tomorrow to raise awareness for the importance of good mental health. Check out the link below for more information:
http://canwetalk.ca/ Enjoy the evening, see you tomorrow. Our class is working on asking good questions using the 5-W's - who, what, when, where, why.
Natalie: This afternoon we worked on literacy stations. Noah: What did you do at literacy stations? Natalie: In literacy stations, I worked on alphabetical order. Noah: Thanks. I did book tub in literacy stations and I wrote about the book called "How to Hide a Lion." Kahlan: In Phys Ed, we played fitness tag. When you got tagged, you had to go outside the black lines and you had to roll the dice and do exercise. Ashley: What was your favourite exercise? Kahlan: My favourite exercise was the v-sit. Ashley: My favourite was the jumping jacks. Ayaan: We played another game after that game. Adalyn: How did you play that game? Ayaan: You passed the ball to another partner and the partner gives the ball back. Maybe it's called bounce-catch. Adalyn: Thanks so much for sharing, Ayaan. I liked when the choir performed this morning. I liked when they sang the "tra-la-la-la-la" part. The munchkins were so cute and funny. -Hartley
I also liked the part with the munchkins! I liked all of the main characters. I liked the tin man. I liked the part when the tin man got a heart. -Noah My favourite part was when the munchkins giggled when Dorothy said "I'm not a witch at all! Witches are old and ugly." -Malaika My favourite part of the day was science. Bill Nye taught us about buoyancy. One thing that blew my mind was that there is actually a way to float and sink if you are wearing something special called a compensation vest. Scuba divers wear things like this. -Hudsynn Fish have built in compensation vests. Also known as their swim bladder -Rhys |
