Tomorrow morning at 10am, the choir group is performing the Wizard of Oz for the entire school. We have a main character in our class - Toto, played by Kahlan! We also are lucky enough to have 10 students who are playing munchkins or singing. The performance at 2pm is for parents - please remember to bring your tickets!

Happy birthday, Avni!
Welcome back from your long weekend. It seems as though spring might finally be here. Many students went biking this weekend and everyone enjoyed the sunshine. Please remember if you are in the choir performance and you are a munchkin, your costume is a plain bright shirt and dark bottoms. Today, Michael Kusugak and his wife, Gerry, spent the entire morning with the grade twos. We were so privileged to be able to listen to Michael's incredible stories - listening to a storyteller is much different than listening to a story being read. Our class spent the first hour with Michael and the second hour with Gerry. She shared with us many beautiful artifacts from Nunavut (Noo-na-voot). Look at the photos below to get a taste of what we experienced. If you have still not sent payment for today's guest speaker, please do so as soon as possible.
Have a wonderful night! A huge thank you to Miss Cooper for being our guest teacher today. She had you working on math (squares game), enjoying the outdoors, and creating art. She was great and you were all super students of hers!
Monday morning is very exciting as we will be having a full morning visit with the author, Michael Kusugak. Our literacy work stations next week will reflect what we learn from him; you won't want to miss it. Thanks to so many of you who came out with your parents to our art walk last night and to the Frigon family for contributing to the Mustard Seed by bidding on, and winning the bid, for our art piece, Maud's Class. Have a super weekend and enjoy the warmer weather (hopefully!) In writing we wrote about Mastre doge.''Avni
today in social studies we read hide and sneak.adalyn Thank you Hartley and Noah for leading the class in blog! If you are the only child, or the oldest sibling, at New Brighton School, you received an invitation to the Volunteer Tea on April 27 from 8:15-9:30am. Please RSVP to [email protected] by April 20 for the tea. You also have a form for tea or coffee orders (with all proceeds going to the playground fund). These are due back May 9. Our class has also been working very hard on getting ready for the art show on Thursday! As a reminder, it is from 5-7 pm - come down and see the many gallery spaces that the students will be proudly sharing their art work. To those who wore their New Brighton gear or a team jersey today - your display of support and sympathy was heartfelt. You helped us remember that we are all part of a team and together we support each other. Dear Parents and Guardians,
On Tuesday, Apr 10 we are inviting students and staff to wear a team jersey or school t-shirt as a show of support and sympathy for all affected by the tragedy in Saskatchewan this past weekend. We are all part of a team. For those families in our community most directly impacted by the events in Saskatchewan we offer our thoughts and condolences. Jeff A form went home today for a special guest, Michael Kusugak, who will be visiting our class next Monday April 16. Please return these as soon as possible. Also, if you would like to order Scholastic, forms for that went home on Friday and I will be placing the order this Friday April 13. A reminder - next THURSDAY, April 12 from 5 - 7 pm is the very first New Brighton Art Walk and Auction. Please plan on attending with an adult. If you are unable to come, no problem because you will be taking home your own art work in May or June and I will post a picture of our class collaborative art on Friday, April 13 for your families to all see in case they miss it.
Monday and Tuesday of next week will be very busy completing our final art piece and doing some writing to go along with it! Have a great weekend! Congratulations New Brighton School Community.
You have outdone yourselves with the Read-a-thon. We are pleased to announce that you raised $22 510. 33 (and 2USD). This is an incredible amount of money - and with the availability of matching grants your School Fundraising Society will be able to double that amount to go towards a future playground. We would like to celebrate the collective efforts of the school community in raising such a large sum of money. Classrooms raised from between $250 and $1607. 231 students participated in the fundraiser. $9430 was raised by our fabulous winners and just over $13 000 was raised by everyone else. A true collective effort. Announcements were made today and the cheers could be heard from one end of the school to another. BIG CONGRATS to both Adalyn, who is going to be Assistant Principal for a day, and Sitota, who is going to be teacher for a friday!!! Our Teachers for a Friday will be planning their day to be in charge on Friday, April 13 and our Principal and Assistant Principal winners will be taking over the school on Friday, April 27. On behalf of the New Brighton School community we thank everyone for their support and participation. Welcome back to school! It was so great to see all of you today.
This morning, the class worked on art for the art walk that is happening on Thursday, April 12. In the afternoon, we scrambled all of the grade two classes together and moved through two (of six) stations where we will learn about magnets. Tomorrow afternoon we will do the same thing and move through two new activities related to magnetism. If you have not already brought back your Read-a-thon forms and money, remember that they are due back tomorrow! Also, please email any last photos of your child being active in the community to Ms. Nanavaty by tomorrow as well. Enjoy the sunshine :) Hey families, way to go! Read this letter from the office below that describes how great we all did this week. "Congratulations New Brighton School - You did what might be considered impossible. Today, for the first time ever at New Brighton School and possibly at any other school in the CBE today (or ever), we had 100% of our students arrive on time. We'd like to thank parents, grandparents, caregivers, students and staff for putting the spotlight on "being on time". To celebrate we enjoyed another 5 minute Dance Party in classrooms, hallways, Gathering Area and Learning Commons. Keep it up after Spring Break. Looking forward to seeing 100% of you again at 8:10AM on April 3. - The Office" In regards to Read-a-thon, remember, pledges and money are due on April 3, 2018. Who will be Ms. Paul for the day? Will someone from our class be the principal for a Friday? Stay tuned.
Have an awesome break, Grade Twos!!! |
